What is Channel 4?
Channel 4 is a free UK streaming service, licensed for viewers in the United Kingdom. Viewers in USA cannot open it directly, because the service checks the IP address and blocks connections from outside the UK. BritVPN presents a UK address so the app treats you as a UK viewer.
Why Channel 4 is blocked in USA
Channel 4's help pages say streaming is only available in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, because of rights agreements, and that being a UK citizen doesn't change that. An American IP address fails the location check, so programmes won't load at all.
All 4 is now just Channel 4
If you're searching for All 4 in the US, you're looking for Channel 4's streaming service. It launched in 2006 as 4oD, took the All 4 name in 2015 and dropped it in April 2023, when the app became simply Channel 4.
The rules didn't change with the name. It streams only to the UK and Ireland.

Channel 4 shows you can watch in America
The Great British Bake Off is the big one. Netflix streams it in the US as The Great British Baking Show, with the 2026 series (Collection 14) released weekly from 25 September, three days after each Channel 4 broadcast.
Netflix doesn't carry Channel 4's live channels or its wider catalogue, so for those, and for Bake Off on the night it airs, you need Channel 4 itself.

Channel 4's schedule in US time
Bake Off airs on Channel 4 at 8pm UK time on Tuesdays, which is 3pm Eastern and noon Pacific for most of the series.
Because the UK and US switch clocks on different dates, the gap drops from five hours to four for a few weeks each March and for one week around Halloween.
On the West Coast, UK prime time is lunchtime viewing, so on demand after work is often the easier option.

What the Channel 4 app includes
In the UK the app has three parts: free on-demand programmes with adverts, Watch Live for the four channels, and Channel 4+, a paid ad-free tier. Watch Live and Channel 4+ are restricted to UK residents, and none of the three streams to an American connection.
