What is Channel 4?
Channel 4 is a free UK streaming service, licensed for viewers in the United Kingdom. Viewers in Sweden cannot open it directly, because the service checks the IP address and blocks connections from outside the UK. BritVPN presents a UK address so the app treats you as a UK viewer.
Why Channel 4 is blocked in Sweden
Channel 4's rights agreements cover the UK and the Republic of Ireland, along with Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. A Swedish IP address is outside all of them, so the player refuses to stream. Even British citizens living in Sweden are covered by the same rule, as Channel 4's FAQs point out.
Channel 4 in Sverige, why it won't load
Channel 4 checks where your connection is coming from, not who you are. From Gothenburg, Uppsala or anywhere else in Sweden, that check fails and the video never starts.
Roaming on a British mobile plan won't get you in. Channel 4 says its service can't be watched over a UK SIM abroad. Swedish broadband, Telia mobile data and hotel Wi-Fi all meet the same result.

Watching Channel 4 live from Sweden
Watch Live is the part of Channel 4 that shows Channel 4, E4, More4 and Film4 in real time. Channel 4 limits it to UK residents, so it needs a UK connection even more than the catch-up section does.
Sweden runs an hour ahead of Britain, all year. If Channel 4 has a programme at 8pm, you'll see it live at 9pm Swedish time, and a late film on Film4 can run past midnight.
Each channel has its own character. E4 aims at younger viewers with comedy and reality, More4 leans on factual and lifestyle programmes, and Film4 is for films.

Is Channel 4 free?
Yes. The normal service costs nothing and shows adverts before and during programmes. Channel 4+, which drops the adverts, is a paid option sold only in the UK.
From Sweden, a free account plus a UK connection is all you need. ITVX works the same way, and the same BritVPN subscription covers it.

Before you start
- BritVPN runs on Android and iOS phones and tablets, Android TV, Fire TV, and in Chrome or Edge.
- Channel 4 asks for a UK postcode at signup. Use one you're entitled to, like a relative's.
- Downloads made on the mobile app in the UK keep working offline in Sweden, though they can't be cast to a Chromecast from abroad.
- If channel4.com was already open before you connected, reload it so the location check runs again.
