How to Watch ITVX Abroad (ITV Hub Outside the UK)

ITVX replaced ITV Hub. It only plays on a UK IP address. Abroad, the app stops on a rights error. BritVPN keeps working when a normal VPN is already blocked.

Why ITVX stops working abroad

• The service is licensed for the United Kingdom. A connection outside the UK fails that check.

ITV Hub is now ITVX

ITV's player has changed name twice. ITV Player became ITV Hub in 2015, and ITV Hub became ITVX on 8 December 2022. Old ITV Hub logins work on ITVX, and old ITV Hub links open in ITVX. The rule hasn't changed: ITVX only streams to connections in the UK.

What ITVX does outside the UK

The app installs and the website opens almost anywhere, which is why people expect it to work. The block comes when you press play. ITVX looks up your IP address, sees a country other than the UK, and stops the live channel or episode with a location message.

Being British, paying for ITVX Premium or holding a UK bank card doesn't change that check. Only the connection's location counts.

What you can watch once it works

• Live ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4, on the same schedule as in the UK.
• The ITVX on-demand library: soaps, dramas, Love Island and box sets.
• ITV's live sport when ITV holds the UK rights.

Today's ITV1 schedule

What time is that where you are?

• Ireland, Portugal and the Canary Islands: same time as the UK.
• Spain, France, Germany and most of Western Europe: one hour ahead.
• New York and Toronto: usually five hours behind, four for a few weeks in March and late October-November, when US and UK clocks change on different dates.
• Sydney: nine to eleven hours ahead, depending on the time of year.
