What is ITVX?
ITVX is a free UK streaming service, licensed for viewers in the United Kingdom. Viewers in Ireland cannot open it directly, because the service checks the IP address and blocks connections from outside the UK. BritVPN presents a UK address so the app treats you as a UK viewer.
Why ITVX is blocked in Ireland
ITV's help pages say live and on-demand viewing stops once you are outside the UK, and the Republic of Ireland counts as outside. ITVX checks your IP address before every stream, so an Irish broadband or mobile connection gets a location error. Saorview, Sky Ireland and Virgin Media Ireland don't carry ITV1 or UTV either, so there is no Irish channel to fall back on.

Virgin Media Television buys many of ITV's biggest shows for Ireland. That covers the soaps and the big entertainment formats, but not the ITVX library, the ITVX exclusives, or ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4.
