What is ITVX?
ITVX is a free UK streaming service, licensed for viewers in the United Kingdom. Viewers in Canada cannot open it directly, because the service checks the IP address and blocks connections from outside the UK. BritVPN presents a UK address so the app treats you as a UK viewer.
Why ITVX is blocked in Canada
ITVX works only on UK connections. ITV puts this down to its broadcast and content agreements, and its help pages say viewers outside the UK can't stream live or on-demand shows. From Canada, the player shows an ITV-101 error instead of the programme.
Why ITVX doesn't work in Canada
ITVX is licensed for one territory, the UK, and ITV sells its programmes separately to broadcasters elsewhere. A Canadian IP address therefore gets no stream at all, not even the free, ad-supported tier.
The rule covers British visitors as well. A UK account and a UK credit card make no difference once you're connecting from Toronto or Vancouver.

Coronation Street on CBC
Canada's best-known ITV import is Coronation Street. CBC's fall 2026 schedule has it on weekdays at 7pm (7:30pm on Fridays), and episodes stream on CBC Gem.
Live ITV1 and ITV2 and the ITVX catalogue are only reachable through ITVX, which needs a UK connection.

ITV1 across Canada's time zones
ITV1's 9pm programme starts at 4pm in Toronto and Montreal, 5pm in Halifax, 5:30pm in St. John's, 2pm in Calgary and 1pm in Vancouver for most of the year.
For two or three weeks in March and one week around the start of November, Canada has changed its clocks and the UK hasn't, so everything runs an hour later: ITV1's 9pm becomes 5pm in Ontario. Saskatchewan keeps the same time all year, so it lines up with Alberta during the UK summer and with Manitoba during the UK winter.

Only in Canada for a trip?
UK residents visiting Canada have a second option. With ITVX Premium you can download programmes to a phone or tablet before you fly, and ITV lets them play abroad for up to seven days. Downloads only work in the mobile apps, and licensing keeps some shows out of them.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ITV available in Canada?
Not through ITVX, which streams only within the UK. CBC carries Coronation Street, but the live ITV channels and the ITVX catalogue need a UK connection.
How do I watch ITVX in Canada?
Connect BritVPN so ITVX sees a UK address, sign in to a free ITVX account and press play. It works in a desktop browser, on phones and tablets, and on Android TV and Fire TV.
How do I watch ITVX abroad on holiday?
ITVX Premium subscribers can download shows to a phone or tablet before leaving the UK and watch them abroad for up to seven days. Streaming live or on demand from abroad needs a UK connection.
Where can I watch Coronation Street in Canada?
On CBC on weekday evenings, and on CBC Gem. ITVX streams the UK episodes too, but only to UK connections.
What time is ITV1 on in Toronto?
Toronto is five hours behind the UK for most of the year, so 9pm on ITV1 is 4pm there. In the weeks when only one country is on daylight saving, the gap is four hours.
Is it legal to watch ITVX in Canada?
Using BritVPN to reach a UK service is lawful in itself. You still have to follow that service's terms, and BBC iPlayer separately expects a UK TV licence.
