What to Expect From the BBC Adaption

Fans of Dickens adaptions rejoice because the public broadcaster is bringing Great Expectations to our screens. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will adapt the coming-of-age story of an orphan nicknamed Pip. Dickens first released it in a series of weekly chapters, beginning in December 1860, before it was subsequently published as a novel.

Great Expectations is the second Dickens adaptation penned by Knight, following the hit limited series A Christmas Carol. There's always a shadow of secrecy that surrounding BBC productions and Great Expectations is no different. Filming on the drama series has occurred in the south of England with details surrounding the shoot being hard to come by.

The series stars up-and-comer Tom Sweet in the role of Pip. He will star as the main character in the first two episodes mainly opposite Olivia Colman, who is playing Miss Havisham. Sweet will be replaced from episode three onwards by Black Mirror Bandersnatch star Fionn Whitehead, at which point Pip grows up.

The cast of the highly-anticipated Dickens adaptation includes Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle and Matt Berry.
