Breakdown: What is Better About?

The five-part thriller Better follows corrupt DI Lou Slack as she battles towards finding redemption. Lou realises she must put right the wrongs that she has spent years rationalising and excusing. But the only way she can do this is by betraying the dangerous drug baron she's been working for.

This drug baron Lou had been assisting wasn't always so rich and powerful. The two had met 19 years earlier when Lou was a young police officer at her lowest ebb and Col a low-ranking but ambitious newcomer to the Leeds underworld. After making a deal to help one another, a complex but special bond between the pair was forged, and so began Lou’s gradual slide into corruption.

The deal made between the two had allowed Col to forge his way to becoming a powerful criminal figure over the years, while Lou was able to gain the respect of her colleagues and become an important figure in her department.

Like all good BBC drama series, the cast of Better is a talented one. Leading the cast is Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie) who plays DCI Lou Slack. Andrew Buchan (Industry) stars in the role of the criminal Col McHugh.
