BBC iPlayer’s reputation as an archive of world-class drama is set to be reaffirmed with the release of upcoming BBC/HBO drama series Industry. Set to be available on iPlayer this autumn, read this article to find out how you can watch Industry, and other upcoming shows on iPlayer, from anywhere in the world– with the click of a button.

Before we take a look at a few different options for watching iPlayer overseas, let’s turn our attention to the latest upcoming and highly anticipated HBO/BBC series to be made available on iPlayer–Industry.

According to its director Lena Dunham (Girls 2012-2017), Industry will be an eight-part miniseries exploring ‘the cutthroat world of international finance’. We’re told to expect something along the lines of The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and judging from the trailer (see below) this sounds about right.

Ostensibly however, this series appears a more serious (or at least more deadpan), and somewhat more gritty affair than The Wolf. The show will follow a group of graduates, as they attempt to navigate their ‘new school’ at the top of the London skyline–where ruthless depravity, backstabbing, dog-eat-dog Darwinian values, are your surefire way to a six-figure-plus salary.

Industry will be the latest installment of a now legendary back-catalogue of binge worthy miniseries’ available to stream on iPlayer. So if you’re anxious to dig your teeth into something else in the meantime, you might want to check out political drama Roadkill (starring Hugh Laurie), or Devs (starring Sonoya Mizuno).

Now let’s take a look at some of your options for watching BBC iPlayer overseas. At the end of the day you’ve got two viable options for watching your favourite British dramas abroad: a VPN or Google Chrome Extension.

So what’s a VPN? A VPN is a type of software you download from the internet that can be interfaced with your web browser to change your IP address. Speak English! I hear you say… basically a VPN can be used to cloak your location, so that in theory you can make it look like you’re streaming BBC content from within the UK. However a VPN will take up a fair amount of space on your streaming device. They’re also notoriously tricky to use for those of us who aren’t computer wizzes like Neo in the Matrix.

A Google Chrome Extension on the other hand, such as Beebs, takes up next to no space on your streaming device–all you need for it to work is a Google Chrome web browser. Then all you have to do is click on the link below and you’ll find yourself, in a matter of minutes, able to watch your favourite BBC dramas from anywhere in the world. Beebs is easy to use, and specifically designed to enable you to watch your favourite iPlayer, All 4, ITV Hub and Channel 5 output, without interruption or difficulty.
