Banged Up gets to the heart of what is really like in Britain’s prisons. HMP Shrewsbury has been reopened for a unique experiment, with seven celebrities locked up as prisoners for eight days.

What's the Programme All About ?

Banged Up is exactly as it sounds. Seven well-known personalities will go behind bars, sharing their living space with other incarcerated. To create an enthralling experience, the studio set up its our own prison with real ex-criminals, ex-guards plus an experienced Governor overseeing the whole thing.

As unbelievable as it sounds, there are 23 inmates banged up alongside the celebrities. These are former criminals who have spent time in prison for a spectrum of serious crimes. The production team were recording 24/7, with cameras fixed within cells of the disused HMP Shrewsbury.

The inmates experienced a schedule which literally copied a prison daily routine. There was facilities such as a workout room, a prison canteen to buy groceries, and other common amenities. There was a 24 /7 security team at the prison to ensure the safety of all people involved in filming the series.

Final Words

This could be one of the reality tv show highlights of the year. And it comes as no that it comes from Channel 4. Creating authentic prison atmosphere allowed Banged Up feel completely real. Not only was the former prison kitted out how it would have originally, but it was run by a respected former prison governor with experienced prison guards. Speaking of TV highlights.
