In March 2018 Salisbury became the site of an unprecedented UK emergency. Two Russian nationals were found unconscious on a public bench in Salisbury. The two were rushed to hospital where it was determined they had been poisoned. The one was 67-year-old Sergei Skripal, a former double agent, who was still actively briefing the UK authorities on Russian intelligence.

The other was his daughter Yulia Skripal, who’s flown to the UK from her home in Moscow to visit her father. The two eventually went on to recover, regain consciousness and survived near unscathed… before they were disappeared for their ‘own safety’ by the British state.

The ensuing media-circus, collapse in diplomatic relations between the UK and Russia, and lack of transparency from either government concerning the attacks, turned the eyes of the world onto an otherwise quiet, leafy unassuming West Country town, previously known only as a pitstop for tourists visiting nearby Stonehenge.

Unfortunately, 3 months later in June 2018, the fallout from the attack continued, as local resident Dawn Sturgess lost consciousness and was rushed to hospital. It was later found that she was poisoned by the same substance used on the Skripals (Novichok), which was hidden in a perfume bottle she received from her partner, who’d found the item in a bin in Salisbury. She would later die in hospital.

The series boasts a range of talent, from its esteemed writers Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn (McMafia), to its all-star cast, which includes the likes of Rafe Spall (War of the Worlds) and Anne-Marie Duff (His Dark Materials).
