The UK’s principal commercial channel continues year-on-year to produce excellent TV content yet it is not possible to watch ITV from the Netherlands.

The problem is that unless you have a UK bank account and can sign up for their portable ITV Hub+ product the channel uses geo-blocking to stop anyone from outside the UK from watching ITV content.

There are, however, a number of ways to unblock your IP and present it to the ITV servers as though you were watching ITV, not in the Netherlands, but from the UK.

Sounds complicated? Not really. Here are the three most common ways of getting access to ITV whether you live in the Netherlands, are just visiting or working away from home.

A cumbersome VPN?

That’s a little unfair but they are not the most simple of downloadable software to install and maintain. Apart from slowing down your internet connection to dial-up speeds and being a pain to re-configure when things go wrong they do provide good service. Just make sure you have the help desk on speed dial!

A proxy what?

A proxy server. Sounds complicated? Well, not really. Think of it like a VNP-lite. Your connection will not be slowed down but you may have some privacy issues - especially with the free ones (if you find one). They are generally less secure than VPNs as the proxy servers has access to all the internet sites you are visiting.
